CREDENTIALS: Cathedral Christian School
1. Introduction
Credentials in the world of education are typically expressed by the terms, "accreditation and certification".
Accreditation is done by state agencies and applies to curriculum and physical school facilities that receive aid from the state department of education, that is to say, governmental education institutes. Non-chartered private schools are outside the jurisdiction of the government, and typically have a higher academic and moral standards than the government's minimum qualifications.
Accreditation of a private Christian school is not necessary for a graduate of that school to enroll in a college or university. Colleges accept applicants on the basis of standardized national aptitude tests. The testing organizations are commercial entities, not governmental.
Facilities and curriculum are accredited. Teachers are Alpha Omega certified supervisors.
"Certification", in the public school realm, means that the teacher of a given subject has passed a state administered test in that subject to determine if he or she knows that area of knowledge sufficiently to teach the applicable scholastic grade level they will be dealing with.
Unfortunately, certification only indicates an educator's achieved degree of retained knowledge, but in no way directly correlates with an innate ability to instill knowledge in others, i.e., the students. The proven ability to facilitate learning in young people is the primary prerequisite for our staff.
2. Staff Educational Experience
Our head administrator, Greg Rodman, has two masters degrees in education, plus other degrees. For over ten years he was immensely successful as an English teacher, math teacher, and head administrator in the public school system, and has subsequently declined offers to teach at the university level. He has administered Cathedral Christian School for 24 years, but still keeps his state certification active.
Our principal, Jean Rodman, has 24 years of teaching experience specializing in developing phonetic reading skills in young students.
3. Student Teacher Ratio
Our student to teacher ratio is approximately 5 students per teacher.
4. Achievement Test Results
Typically, our students have scored above the national ninety percentile in scholastic achievement tests. This means they excel beyond all but less than ten percent of other public and private school enrollees.
5. Other Accomplishments
a. One of our former students was a winner of the President's Award, a six-year full-ride scholarship to the school of one's choice, which was by law given to only ten students in each state of the union. Thanks to the scholarship he completed graduate school with honors, and is involved in medicine today.
b. We have graduates and staff matriculated from Biola University, Syracuse University, Howard Payne, Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, various engineering schools, and others.
6. Additional Information
We annually receive college catalogs from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, West Point, Annapolis, and the Air Force Academy, as well as numerous Ivy League schools.
